Oil use and cost calculator EnCalcOU has been updated by JSutils to add the tank data to the results log file and fix a small number of bugs. EnCalcOU calculates the cost of oil, allowing both the real cost based on tank readings and forward prediction based on the readings and elapsed time. The results can be saved to a log file for later analysis. The program can cope with different shaped tanks, work in volume or depth of oil, varying tax rates plus fixed charges enabling most charging models to be handled. It will also calculate the amount of CO2 generated and predict when the tanks next need filling. See history for details of the changes in this version.
There have been a number of support mails over the last couple of months with the following problem which has perplexed people. Monitoring oil consumption all works fine until a delivery is included in the calculation when usage figure vary wildly to normal. This is caused by the tanks quoted capacity being different to the actual capacity by a small amount. The effect is most noticeable with very low oil consumption. We intend to produce our own note on this subject but in the meantime the oil measurement tips from Practical Home Energy Saving provide details on how to solve this problem which is not related to EnCalcOU. Also detailed are other factors which can affect the measurement accuracy.
